In Honor of Michele...

I had someone forward the Gay Boyfriend video to me. It made me think of my friend Michele, whom I had in my grad program at ASU. She had broken up with her boyfriend (who ended up being gay, though she did not find this out until much later) and decided I was going to be the object of her affections. Once I discovered her plot, I set her "straight" and made sure she knew I wasn't. At that point, she decided to refer to me as her "secret boyfriend," and still does to this day, despite the fact that she got married this past December. The scary thing is that a) its the first time I've had a girlfriend of any sort since Junior High and b) its lasted longer than any of my gay relationships.

Time to have fun...

With everything that has been going on in my life lately, I've really needed to take some time to just have some fun. I haven't had much of that lately. Fortunately, San Diego Pride is next weekend and this weekend was a very good start. Friday, I went to see a friend at the restaurant he works at, Zest, which I really enjoyed. Then it was over to Amsterdam, where I did a little socializing.

Saturday was mostly a lazy day trying to keep out of the heat. That evening, my friend Adam had a housewarming party with a 40s theme at his new condo. There was no shortage of booze or cute guys. It made for a fun evening.

As for today, one of my friends who moved out of town about a year ago was back for the weekend. I went to a pool party they were throwing in his honor. Got to spend some time with some friends I haven't seen in a while and met some new people too. Afterwards, we headed to NuTowne for the beer bust. Ugh. No more alcohol for a while.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to next weekend in San Diego. Just what I've been needing.

Today Weather... is NASTY!

Ok, I'm a Phoenix native, so I rarely bitch about the weather here. Yeah, the summers are hot but 8 months out of the year are absolutely gorgeous. Personally, I think its a good tradeoff. Even most of the summer, while blisteringly hot, is somewhat more bearable because, as the cliche goes, its a dry heat. Well, the Monsoon season is now here. Normally, that's a good thing because the temperature drops and you get some very impressive thunderstorms. The down side is that the once dry heat is now icky and muggy. Today we're down to 98 degrees with 33% humidity... Now, I'm sure that's nothing compared to other parts of the country, or the world, even. For me, though, it feels awful. I suppose I'd feel better if I was rubbing a hot, sweaty guy like the one pictured, but no such luck. Hey, you never know, the weekend is still young.

I'm in 'Love'

Ok guys, don't get TOO excited there... I am talking about Jennifer Love Hewitt. Katie Holmes used to be the straight woman I would marry if I were forced to marry a woman. Now that she's gone off the deep end and become a mindless zombie ever since she got tangled up with Tom, I think I've lost that lovin' feelin' for her. Well, Jennifer Love Hewitt is my backup.

I first encounter her, like many others, while watching Party of Five. She played the girlfriend of Bailey, played by the uber-hot Scott Wolf. Now I will admit that I spent much more time wishing I was with Scott Wolf than with Jennifer Love, but if I had to pick a woman off the show, it would be her... although Neve Campbell is attractive - her brother Christian is also very cute.

Anyway, I also dug Love in Can't Hardly Wait, where she played unattainable Amanda Beckett opposite Ethan Embry, who is just incredibly cute. He's got that cute, nice guy vibe that I really dig (note to the Universe: Send me one like that!). Ethan Embry also played the gay best friend of Reece Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama.

Anyway, I digress. Jennifer Love Hewitt is starring on a new CBS drama, entitled Ghost Whisperer. Its kinda like Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer, only in this one, she can talk to ghosts instead of horses. This is hot on the heels of NBC's Medium, which despite the political upswing of conservative Christians, marks the rise of alternative spirituality based programming hitting the mainstream. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Anyway, I hope Jennifer Love does well, though I don't know if its enough to persuade me to actually watch the show... if its not Charmed or Gilmore Girls, I just can't bring myself to care. That's the scoop for today.

Finally in the 21st Century

With San Diego Pride a mere 2 weeks away, the prospect of actually spinning when Club Miami finally opens (nothing official yet -- I'll let you guys know if and when anything happens...), I realized that the sad camera phone was not going to cut it anymore. Thanks to my project being extended yet again, I decided to go ahead and spring for a new digital camera... the Olympus D-545. Not the top of the line by any means, but plenty good enough to show you a little more of what's going on in my world.

Back on Track

Again, I want to thank everyone for your words of support. I've decided that life must move on, and that means I'm back to my old self. Thanks to Photoshop, I wanted to share with you my favorite street in all of Tempe. It makes me smile every time I pass by.

I wanted to thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, positive vibes and overall support. It has been a bittersweet experience - While it has been difficult to say goodbye, I can't help but remember all the wonderful times we had together and I've been touched by so many friends far and wide that have been showing their support. I'll never be able to express how much it means to me.

Change of Plans...

Hey guys. I was going to give you a guys a review of Fantastic Four, which I saw with Adam on Saturday. It was pretty good and there was plenty of Chris Evans's hot flesh, which made it definitely worth the money, IMO.

Anyway, my grandmother passed away late yesterday, at the age of 91. Oddly enough, I'm not really in the mood to talk about Chris Evans's chest right now... I'm sure my senses will return before too long.

Tragedy...

My heart goes out to the people of London and the entire UK. I hope that someday we will break the cycle of violence and hate that prevents us from seeing all that is sacred and good in every one of us.

Something I missed...

One of the important things that happened last week that I neglected to blog about last week was Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement. Strange that Arizona should have 2 justices with such strong connections - both O'Connor and Rehnquist are from AZ. Coincidentally, they also went to Stanford together. One of the perks of going to law school there is that you get some of the super-secret downlow gossip... Apparently, the word is that Rehnquist and the then Ms. Day used to date. Who'd have guessed?

Of course, we've been waiting for a resignation... the big surprise was that it was O'Connor and not Rehnquist. What has followed has been one of my biggest pet peeves as of late... hysterical reactionary politics. I've received 20 e-mails from various groups screaming for money because OMG, the world will absolutely end if I don't. The calls are coming from both ends of the political spectrum and they're the same Chicken Little cry that we've heard for a while... "This is the most important battle we've ever faced... we can't afford to lose... must send money or the world as we know it will end..." My God, we have a crisis every freaking week, it seems.

Now, that's not to say that the Supreme Court isn't very important. Of COURSE it is. The rhetoric on the left is that Bush will finally hand the far-right everything they've always dreamed of... overturning Roe v. Wade, affirmative action rollbacks, etc. The reality is that this is a political minefield... just think of Bush's post-election talk about spending his political capital on revamping Social Security. That's gone over OH so well. I guess my point is that its hardly a clear picture of how this will turn out. Its time to quit the hysteria we've had from both sides.

Fantastic...

Ok, Fantastic Four is almost here. I confess that I was never a big fan of the comic but I can hardly contain myself, I'm so excited! In case you need an explanation of WHY I'm excited, Chris Evans plays Johnny Storm, The Human Torch. He was yummy in Not Another Teen Movie, made the jump to full-fledged hunk in Cellular. Now the man promises literally to be ON FIRE (sorry for the bad pun, but I couldn't resist) in Fantastic Four. I promise to give you guys a full review once I get a chance to see it.
